De tentoonstelling opent met Derens 16mm-film Ritual in Transfigured Time. De film is een ‘documentaire van het innerlijke’, zoals de kunstenaar het zelf omschreef. Rituele dans bracht volgens Deren een staat van ‘depersonalisatie’ teweeg, waarbij de danser, gesteund door de gemeenschap, bevrijd kon worden van sociale en culturele beperkingen.
