[1] The film is based on the 1906 novel The Beloved Vagabond by William John Locke.
You can't expect much from the very early film musicals made with the most primitive of sound equipment, but The Vagabond Lover, designed to make a film star of crooning sensation Rudy Vallee is truly painful. All the performers are stilted Vallee in particular is woeful. His style of crooning is hardly inspiring, but his acting is far worse.
