The Sixth Lead: Avec Rick Glassman, Bill Lawrence, Michael Hobert, Allison Bosma. A "documentary" following the professional day-to-day of a TV-star whose character doesn't talk much.
Series lead Nathan Fillion stated during an interview that the drama was inspired by a true story as the LAPD is one of just two agencies that accepts new officers over the age of 37. The man whose story inspired the premise of the show was later revealed to be Bill Norcross, a college friend of executive producer Jon Steinberg, who based the show on his story.
Rick Glassman (the sixth lead) meets with Bill Lawrence (Showrunner & head writer) to talk about getting more jokes on the show. He even has a few ideas of his own like: sleep-acting, incorporating a little Jewishness (but not too much) and how he looks like Wolverine. Bill gives Rick some tangible advice on how to get more lines on the show.

The series premiere was a lead-out to the Vikings-Eagles NFC Championship Game. In May 2021, the series was renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on September 21, 2021. In May 2022, the series was renewed for a sixth season, which premiered on September 20, 2022. In April 2023, the series was canceled after six seasons.
