Biography. Sarah Wyatt was born about 1657 in Anne Arundel, Maryland to parents Nicholas Wyatt and Demaris ___ (Stockett). She married Col. Edward Dorsey in Nov 1670 in Anne Arundel, Maryland. Children: Edward, Sarah, Hannah, Samuel, Caleb, Joshua, John, Nicholas, Benjamin. She died in 1690 in Anne Arundel, Maryland.

27 apr 2016 · Sarah Anne Ellis Dorsey died of cancer at the age of forty-eight in 1879. Carol M. Bensick was a CSW Research Scholar from 2010 to 2015. She received her PhD in American literature to 1914 at Cornell University. She is the author of La Nouvelle Beatrice: Renaissance and Romance in «Rappaccini’s Daughter.»
As Sarah Dorsey aged, she became more restless in her role as a woman of leisure. While remaining basically faithful to the Southern female code, she thought of heading a girls’ school in Maryland. She came, however, to realize that acceptance of headmistress would mean a rejection of her father’s values and a surrender to the temptations of independence.

If the evidence of James’s interest is not sufficient to justify a study of Dorsey’s paper, we may look deeper into the scholarship touched on above.
Sarah Ellis married Samuel Worthington Dorsey in 1853, and between 1862 and 1877 she wrote six novels and one nonfiction work, Recollections of Henry Watkins Allen (1866). The Dorseys moved to Beauvoir on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1873 because of Samuel's health.
