A Bolt Thrower egy angol death metal zenekar, mely 1986-ban alakult. Első két lemezükön még Crust punk és grindcore hatásokkal kevert death metalt játszottak, majd az 1991 -es Warmaster albumon kezdték játszani azt a fajta középtempós death metalt, melyben nagy szerep jut a doom metal elemeknek is, és amely azóta védjegyüknek számít.

Bolt Thrower (englisch für Balliste) war eine englische Death-Metal-Band aus Coventry und gehörte zu den bekanntesten Vertretern des Death-Metal-Genres. Der Bandname bezieht sich auf eine mittelalterliche Kriegswaffe, die auch wegen des frühen Coverartworks der Band oft mit dem Tabletop-Spiel Warhammer Fantasy assoziiert wird. [1]

Bolt Thrower perustettiin syyskuussa 1986, alun perin Crust punkin, hardcoren ja thrash metallin risteytystä eli crust/ grindcorea esittävänä yhtyeenä, vaikutteinaan muun muassa thrash-yhtye Slayer ja punk-yhtyeet Crass ja Discharge. Yhtyeen perustivat basisti Gavin Ward ja kitaristi Barry Thomson.

He joined the band at age 17 after playing in several local bands in Coventry, playing anything from metal to reggae, having been playing pub gigs since the age of 14.
Jo-Anne Bench is a death metal bassist from Leamington Spa, England, [1] who is best known as the bassist for Bolt Thrower. She has performed on all of the band's albums, but not on any of their demos. [1] Noted for being one of few women in the extreme metal genre, Bench has been influential to a number of other female musicians in the genre.
