James Gordon Farrell nacque a Liverpool nel 1935. Nel 1965, a New York, decise di scrivere un romanzo sull’Irlanda. L’opera, Tumulti, vinse nel 1970 il Faber Memorial Prize. Nel 1974, L’assedio di Krishnapur (Neri Pozza, 2001), il suo secondo romanzo, vinse il Booker Prize.

1 gen 2001 · James Gordon Farrell, known as J.G. Farrell, was a Liverpool-born novelist of Irish descent. Farrell gained prominence for his historical fiction, most notably his Empire Trilogy (Troubles, The Siege of Krishnapur and The Singapore Grip), dealing with the political and human consequences of British colonial rule.
On August 11, Farrell was hit by a wave while fishing and was washed out to sea. His body was found a month later. A biography of J.G. Farrell, J.G. Farrell: The Making of a Writer by Lavinia Greacen, was published by Bloomsbury in 1999. Pankaj Mishra was born in North India in 1969 and now lives in London and India.
