The Australian republic referendum held on 6 November 1999 was a two-question referendum to amend the Constitution of Australia. The first question asked whether Australia should become a republic , under a bi-partisan appointment model where the president would be appointed by Parliament with a two-thirds majority.

The office was formally established by the Constitution of Greece in 1975, but has antecedents in the Second Hellenic Republic of 1924–1935 and the Greek junta in 1973–1974 which predated the transition to the current Third Hellenic Republic.

In a 1924 referendum, Greeks voted to create a republic. [citation needed] In 1935, Prime Minister Georgios Kondylis, a former pro-Venizelos military officer, became the most powerful political figure in Greece.
Vilhelm was elected unanimously by the Greek Assembly, and became "His Majesty George I, King of the Hellenes". There was a referendum in 1920 to restore Constantine I as monarch, but four years later the Second Hellenic Republic was established and the monarchy was abolished following a referendum in 1924.
