9 lug 2016 · Chu Chin Chow was a version of the Arabian Nights’ Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves tale, put together by actor, director and sometime playwright Asche as a vehicle for himself and his wife, actress Lily Brayton, and produced in wartime London at His Majesty’s Theatre on 31 August 1916 – in the theatre which normally housed the respected dramatic productions of Beerbohm Tree.
Chu Chin Chow is a pantomime-style musical adventure set in ancient Baghdad. The story revolves around Kasim Baba, who is hosting a grand banquet for the wealthy Chinese merchant, Chu Chin Chow. However, lurking in the shadows is the robber chieftain Abu Hasan, who seeks to steal Kasim’s riches and plans to use his captive as a secret spy.
