After a couple lineup shuffles, Tubeway Army -- Gary Numan (aka Valeriun), Paul Gardiner (aka Scarlett), and Numan's uncle Jess Lidyard (aka Rael) -- debuted in February of 1978 with "That's Too Bad" on Beggars Banquet, a furious fusion of punk and pop, but darkly cold and clinical.
Jess Lidyard's drum work is great and has a lot of weight behind it - While being a pop song, there's this great dirty heaviness to it, giving it an undeniable swagger, especially that post-chorus bridge. It's pure perfection, everything's amazing here. We Are So Fragile is another hard-edged piece of new wave from the Army.

Webb's compositional credits on the original vinyl single were under the Valerian pseudonym as well. The back of the original vinyl single's sleeve contained two discrepancies: Valerian was spelt 'Valeriun'; and the band picture featured live drummer Bob Simmonds, not Jess Lidyard who actually played in the recording session.
