The Dolls were critics' darlings with a cult following, but their failure to break commercially may be due to their being ahead of their time in that their sound and image both anticipated and influenced aspects of the later 1970s' punk rock movement.

6 gen 2009 · Considering the excellence of Johnny Thunders' So Alone (not to mention the Heartbreakers LAMF) and Syl Sylvain's first album, it really makes you wish that the Dolls could have made it work. Absent the drugs, drama, and other undesirable influences that made this fantasy an impossibility, they surely would have only gotten better and better.
