Riccardo II (1377-1400) Guglielmo Longespée era il figlio illegittimo di Enrico II d'Inghilterra e, si ha ragione di credere, di Ida de Toesny. Sir William Longespée (c. 1212 – 8 February 1250) was an English knight and crusader, the son of William Longespée and Ela, Countess of Salisbury. His death became of significant importance to the English psyche, having died at the Battle of Mansurah , near Al-Mansurah in Egypt .
The Ela of Salisbury series features a real historical figure—the formidable Ela Longespée. The young Countess of Salisbury was chosen to marry King Henry II’s illegitimate son William. After her husband’s untimely death, Ela served as High Sheriff of Wiltshire and ultimately founder and abbess of Lacock Abbey.

Ela Longespée (1244-c. 19 July 1276) was the eldest daughter and co-heiress of Stephen Longespee, Justiciar of Ireland, Seneschal of Gascony. Her paternal grandmother was Ela, Countess of Salisbury, who had founded Lacock Abbey, and for whom she was named.
