  1. William Longespée's birth date is uncertain. He was an illegitimate son of King Henry II of England by Ida de Toeni. Marriage and Children. In 1196 his half-brother Richard I gave him the hand of Ela, whose father had died that year, making her Countess of Salisbury in her own right: she was then still a child.
