Khrustalyov, Mashinu! plot. The film is about an army doctor whose fate is first determined by the absurdism of Stalinist Moscow and then, after the famous 'affair of the Jewish doctors', by the nightmare of a penal camp. Then he is taken back to the capital, because only he could save the dying leader.
Khrustalyov, mashinu! isn't accessible in the least. It was nominated for a Palme D'or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival but lost to the Greek film Mia aioniotita kai mia mera. Khrustalyov, mashinu! is all the same an amazing piece of work despite my inability to completely understand it.
Late winter 1953. A military surgeon, General Yuri Georgievich Klensky, finds himself a target of an anti-Semitic conspiracy accusing Jewish doctors in Moscow of planning to assassinate the Soviet elite. Pursued and abused, Yuri is chased and dragged through a Stalinist Soviet nightmare.
