Engelbert II of Nassau, Engelbrecht in Dutch, was count of Nassau and Vianden and lord of Breda, Lek, Diest, Roosendaal, Nispen and Wouw. He was a soldier and courtier, for some time leader of the Privy council of the Duchy of Burgundy and a significant patron of the arts.

Count Adolf I of Nassau-Siegen [note 1] (1362 – 12 June 1420), German: Adolf I. Graf von Nassau-Siegen, was since 1384 Count of Diez, through his first marriage. With his brothers, he succeeded his father in 1416 as Count of Nassau-Siegen [note 2] (a part of the County of Nassau ), and also inherited the County of Vianden in 1417.

Engelbrecht, die ook wel Engelbert werd genoemd, trad op 1 augustus 1403 in Breda in het huwelijk met Johanna van Polanen (1392-1445), de vrouwe van Breda en de Lek. Hierdoor kreeg hij veel invloed in Holland, Brabant, Henegouwen, Utrecht en Zeeland, want tot de erfenis van zijn echtgenote behoorden veel heerlijkheden en ridderhofsteden in deze gebieden.
