Colonel George William Adolphus FitzGeorge was a great-grandson of King George III of the United Kingdom and first cousin to Queen Mary, being the eldest of the three sons of the 2nd Duke of Cambridge and Louisa Fairbrother.
Olga Mary Adelaide FitzGeorge was born on 11 June 1877 as the daughter and only child of Rear Admiral Sir Adolphus FitzGeorge (1846–1922) and his first wife Sophia Jane Holden FitzGeorge (1857–1920). She was born in Athens, where her father was serving with the Mediterranean Fleet of the Royal Navy.

Adolphus FitzGeorge entered the Royal Navy in March 1859. He became sub-lieutenant in 1865 and a lieutenant in the following year. In June 1867 he joined the Galatea, screw frigate, commanded by Captain the Duke of Edinburgh, and in March 1872 was appointed Flag Lieutenant to Admiral Sir Rodney Mundy, Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth.

George Edward Archibald Augustus FitzGeorge Hamilton was the only son of Sir Archibald Hamilton, 5th Baronet, and his first wife, Olga FitzGeorge, the only daughter and child of Rear Admiral Sir Adolphus FitzGeorge and his first wife, Sophia Jane Holden. He was the heir to the Hamilton baronetcies of Trebinshun House and Marlborough House.
