Sparrow is a working-class street kid and Sebastien a middle-class boy of privilege. One day, they meet at a video-game arcade. Together, they become friends and embark on a journey of self-discovery to locate Sparrow’s long-lost mother, an immigrant Vietnamese woman.
Later, Sebastian rides up on his bike when the cops are hassling Sparrow about sitting in a tinnie, and pretends the boat is his, and Sparrow’s his cousin. As an eight rows past, Sparrow yells “college poofters” at them, and then drops Sebastian at his plush West Lakes home where dad Peter Thornbury (Robert Coleby) has just arrived.
