Estelle Getty was an American actress and comedian. She was best known for her role as Sophia Petrillo on the 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls. She began her career in the late 1950s, appearing in television shows such as The Phil Silvers Show and The Patty Duke Show. She also appeared in films such as Tootsie and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.
