Jones grew up outside Sacramento, CA as an only child. His skills on the basketball court helped his high school team to several high-profile wins, and eventually made him an All-City player. He enrolled at UC Berkeley in 1995, and played for the Golden Bears for three seasons before being awarded a full-tuition scholarship in his final year.
