Oxford’s Mansfield College was founded in Birmingham in 1838 as a nonconformist college for university students. Mansfield has twice been voted the best college for vegetarian food in the University. The twice-weekly formal second sitting of dinner – Formal Hall – is very popular and there are regular special dinners such as a Thanksgiving dinner and a Burns Night supper. There are also kitchens on-site for students who prefer to cook for themselves.
Mansfield College, one of the smallest of the University's colleges, is ideally situated in a quiet and leafy part of central Oxford. The College is pleased to be able to offer accommodation in student bedrooms during the vacation periods.
Mansfield offers a choice of modern, en-suite, single rooms and traditional, student study-bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities (singles and twins). Two children per adult are welcome. Accommodation is located on the main College site and all rooms are fully equipped with bed linen, towels and tea and coffee making facilities.
Our timeline. In 1838 Mansfield was founded as a theology college, Spring Hill College, in Birmingham. In 1887 we moved to our current home in Oxford. From 1913 we accepted women for ordination. In 1955 we joined Oxford University as a Permanent Private Hall. From 1979 we welcomed mixed cohorts.
