In 1887, Zekiye was engaged to Ali Nureddin Pasha, eldest son of Gazi Osman Pasha and Zatıgül Hanım, a lady formerly in harem of Sultan Abdulaziz, In 1889, aged seventeen, her father arranged her trousseaux and marriage together with three of Sultan Abdulaziz's daughters, princesses Saliha Sultan, Nazime Sultan, and Esma Sultan.
Nureddin Pasha was discharged from duty, but avoided a court martial thanks to Atatürk. He was sent to the western front and agreed to serve under İsmet Pasha, who was his junior. When the Greeks were defeated, he was one of the first people to set foot in freed Smyrna, modern İzmir. Some sources claim that Nureddin Pasha set Smyrna on fire.
Early life. Şehzade Ahmed Nureddin was born on 22 June 1901 in the Yıldız Palace. [1] [2] [3] His father was Abdul Hamid II, son of Abdulmejid I and Tirimüjgan Kadın. His mother was Behice Hanım, [4] [5] daughter of Albus Bey Maan [6] and Nazli Hanım Kuçba. He had a twin brother, Şehzade Mehmed Bedreddin who died in childhood in 1903. [4]
