13 nov 2023 · English: Watercolor portrait of Polish composer Frederic Chopin was painted by then-16-year-old Maria Wodzinska (1819-96). The artist and her sitter became engaged the following year but never married each other.
Chopin and Maria Wodziński. On the way back from Paris, Chopin met Maria Wodziński, daughter of his parents' friends. He fell in love with her and was engaged to marry her, but the wedding had to be postponed due to Chopin's bad health. He wrote 'The Farewell Waltz' on the morning of his departure from Dresden, and the relationship ended.
Maria Wodzińska. Maria Wodzińska (1819–1896) was Chopin’s unofficial fiancée in 1836-1838. She also features in the lyrical works of Juliusz Słowacki. The Chopin and Wodziński families became acquainted when two of Maria’s brothers boarded with Mikołaj Chopin.
Maria Wodzińska (7 January 1819 – 7 December 1896) was a Polish artist who was once engaged to composer Frédéric Chopin. Wodzińska was the daughter of Count Wincenty and Countess Theresa Wodziński of the Jastrzębiec coat of arms. She had three brothers, Antoni, Feliks, and Kazimierz, and a sister, Jozefa.
