Alex was a sportscaster and actor and had also been a football player with the Detroit Lions.

11 ott 2014 · ‘Saturday Night Live’ would have been a much better name, but that title was already in use at ABC. Below is a rare clip of the show’s opening with host Howard Cosell. Fortunately for everyone, the show only aired for 18 weeks.
The late F. Gwynplaine MacIntyre says the title of the show was Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell, which is certainly true. The NBC show, however, was called NBC's Saturday Night for its first few months because of the potential title conflict. (I used to vet title conflicts at ABC, although not this one.)
