27 ago 2022 · Documenta is an art exhibition held every five years in Kassel, Germany. Ruangrupa, an Indonesian collective, curated this year’s installment. Fitting for Documenta 15’s slogan, “Make friends, not art,” the exhibition is a playful return to a childlike mindset. Many of the artworks reflect the exchange of many opinions.
In the summer of 2012 dOCUMENTA (13) will open in Kassel, a cultural event of world standing. Since it was established in 1955, documenta is regarded as the most important international exhibition of contemporary art, takes place every five years, and runs for 100 days, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to Kassel.
Whereas the documenta of 1955, with its revival of the avant-garde following the “lost years” of the National Socialist era, had been conceived by necessity as a retrospective, the objective was now to bridge the gap to contemporary art. For documenta fifteen, ruangrupa has developed a concept that consistently sustains the idea of collective action and is based on the principles of friendship, solidarity and community. “We want to create a globally aligned, cooperative and interdisciplinary art and culture platform that remains in effect beyond the 100 days of documenta fifteen.
The documenta commission is a special group of people from all over the world. They know much about pieces of art. At documenta 15, they have various tasks. For example: They work together with the management of documenta. They help the management with their work. And they decide who is going to be the next documenta’s artistic director group.
