As well as being the first American female director to be president of the jury, Greta Gerwig has also become the youngest person to hold this position after Sophia Loren, who was just 31 in 1966. She is also the second director to be named after Jane Campion in 2014, as well as the second American actress after Olivia de Haviland, the first female president of the jury in 1965.
