Cadiz heeft een a-typische vorm en ligging. De stad ligt op een landtong aan de Golf van Cadiz, volledig omringd door het water van de Atlantische Oceaan, maar toch geen eiland omdat een landengte en twee hoofdbruggen, La Constitucion brug (La Pepa) en Puente José León de Carranza, de verbinding vormen met het vasteland.
