Mozart is best known today as the father and teacher of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and for his violin textbook Versuch einer gründlichen Violinschule.

Leben. Leopold Mozart wurde als Sohn eines Buchbindermeisters in der schwäbischen Freien Reichsstadt Augsburg (heute Bayerisch-Schwaben) geboren. 1737 verließ er Augsburg; er blieb aber zeitlebens Augsburger Bürger und mehrere Reisen führten ihn zurück in seine Vaterstadt.
