McCallie is full of enthusiastic and motivated young men and nowhere would one find a faculty more skillful and caring. There are other ingredients that also help make the school community what it is. Students at McCallie become actively involved outside the classroom. The Strang-Voges Tennis Center on the campus of the McCallie School, is named for John Strang, who coached tennis and taught Bible at McCallie from 1951 to 2001, and Eric Voges '81, who served as McCallie's varsity coach from 1987 to 2016 before moving into his current position of McCallie's Director of Tennis Operations.

This merit scholarship program was created in 1998 and named for Ed Michaels '60 and Alan Dickson '49 who were instrumental in its founding. McCallie's merit scholarship program was inspired by the collegiate-level Morehead-Cain (University of North Carolina), Jefferson Scholarship (University of Virginia), and the A.B. Duke Scholarship programs.
