As If To Nothing è un disco di pop elettronico minimale e dalle atmosfere cinematiche, sospeso e deliziosamente notturno. Molti artisti guest come Bono, Evan Dando, Mogwai, Photek e altri. Un parterre imponente ma il vero protagonista è il sound creato da Armstrong, un mago della console che Massive Attack e altri hanno voluto come arrangiatore e produttore.
Evan Dando nasce nel 1967 a Boston, nel Massachusetts, da una modella e un avvocato (che divorzierranno 11 anni dopo). Negli anni ottanta si avvicina alla musica hardcore punk, innamorandosi in particolare di gruppi come Hüsker Dü e Replacements che riuscivano ad addolcire la furia tipica del genere con sonorità rock, acustiche e psichedeliche.
