Das Institut wurde 1969 von Lee Strasberg gegründet, dem damaligen Leiter des Actors Studio in New York. Dem vorausgegangen war die Eröffnung des Actors Studio West. Es besteht noch heute. Das dort praktizierte Method Acting wurde beibehalten. Heute wird die Schule von seiner dritten Frau, Anna Strasberg, geleitet. [1]
Formerly a professor at NYU/Tisch Film & TV Department, Ms. Cohen has been a faculty member at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute for over 25 years. In October, 2008, Ms. Cohen was honored to represent the United States in the work of Lee Strasberg, at the international Methodic Theatrical Festival in Tuscany.
Through actor training, outreach, and the preservation of archival materials, The Institute works to further the legacy of Lee Strasberg®, train the world’s greatest actors, and maintain Lee’s place as a seminal figure in the great American theatre and film tradition.
Patrick Bonavitacola received his training as an actor at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute from Lee Strasberg. Lee invited him to become part of The Actors Studio community in 1979, and he has been associated with The Studio for more than 35 years now—first as an actor, and for the last 15 years as a member of the Playwright/Directors Unit.
