No beating about the Bush is the final year diary of former deputy head Dave Bush who retired in 1996 after spending the whole of his teaching career there.
King James's School is a non-selective academy. It has about 1,030 boys and girls aged between 11 and 16. In November 2019 the school was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Particular strengths include Destinations, Attendance, Disadvantaged pupils and Attainment. Relative weaknesses include Representation, Finances, Environment and Admissions.

Inspection report: King James’s School 5–6 November 2019 2 What is it like to attend this school? The school is a caring place in which pupils feel safe and secure. Pupils, parents and carers told us about the family atmosphere in the school. We agree. Pupils are well looked after, and they get on well with their teachers.
