Allan Holdsworth (born August 6, 1946; Bradford, West Yorkshire, England – died April 16, 2017; Vista, California, USA) was an English guitarist and composer best known for his work in jazz fusion. After recording with a number of bands throughout the 1970's, his first solo album was released – against his will – as 1976's Velvet Darkness .

12 gen 2023 · Allan Holdsworth (1946-2017) was a British musician, composer and bandleader. He was primarily known for his work on electric guitar, and to a somewhat lesser extent for his use of the SynthAxe synthesizer controller. In addition, he also occasionally performed on vocals and violin, live and on record, especially in earlier years.
Holdsworth was known for his knowledge of music, through which he created works in chord progressions and solos. His unique legato soloing technique came from his desire to originally play the saxophone. He also become associated with playing an early form of guitar synthesizer called the SynthAxe, a company which he worked for in the 1980s.
