Painted Skin: The Resurrection is a 2012 Chinese fantasy action film directed by Wuershan, starring Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei, Feng Shaofeng and Yang Mi.The film reunites most of the original cast of the 2008 film Painted Skin., acting as a sequel to the original film in a new storyline and characters with some degrees of connection.
26 set 2008 · I watched Painted Skin because I found the description of the story interesting and I love Chinese fantasy films. But this film doesn't have the usual brilliant colors I have come to love in other films of the same genre. The colors were darker which led me to believe, it would probably be a great action/horror film.

In one respect, "Painted Skin" is superior to the originals and that's the special effects. What had to be done with a lot of plastic and stop-motion sequences, is created at the computer nowadays, so that qualitywise you can actually keep up with western productions, apart from some a litte bit slovenly done effects in the film.
