Aristotle, when he asked ‘ what is the ultimate purpose of human existence ’ alluded to the fact that purpose was what he argued to be ‘happiness’. He termed this eudaimonia – “ activity expressing virtue ”. This will all be explained shortly.
Intermezzo is an English language remake of an unmemorable Swedish film of the same title, released in 1936 and starring Bergman in the same role. The plot may have even less substance than a small ball of diet candyfloss, it may rely on the kind of daft contrivances that are endemic in low-grade soap operas, but somehow the film holds our attention.
