Johannes Bugenhagen (24 June 1485 – 20 April 1558), also called Doctor Pomeranus by Martin Luther, was a German theologian and Lutheran priest who introduced the Protestant Reformation in the Duchy of Pomerania and Denmark in the 16th century.

Nacque il 24 giugno 1485 a Wollin (Pomerania), studiò all'università di Greifswald (1502-1504), fu insegnante apprezzato a Treptow, divenne sacerdote nel 1509 e professore di Sacra Scrittura nel convento dei premonstratensi a Belbuck nel 1517.

Johannes Bugenhagen. Known mostly as pastor of the city church in Wittenberg during the spread of the Reformation and as Luther’s own father confessor, Johannes Bugenhagen played a significant role in translating early Protestant theology into actual church practice.
Nach dem Tod Martin Luthers nahm sich Bugenhagen dessen Witwe und Kinder an. 1558 ist Johannes Bugenhagen in Wittenberg gestorben. Sein Grabstein ist in der Stadtkirche zu finden.
Johannes Bugenhagen was the pastor of the City Church in Wittenberg, close associate in reform to Martin Luther, translator of the Bible into Low German, and architect of church order for several cities and territories in North Germany and Denmark.
