Biografia. Mae Carol Jemison va néixer a Decatur, Alabama, el 17 d'octubre de 1956 i és la filla més petita de Charlie Jemison i Dorothy Green. El seu pare era supervisor de manteniment d'una organització de caritat, i la seva mare va treballar la major part de la seva carrera com a mestra d'anglès i matemàtiques a l'Escola Beethoven de Chicago.
