This two part mini-series shows the trials and tribulations all the participants endured to be a part of the very first Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. It focuses on the individuals from the many countries around the world that joined together to lay the foundation of the modern Summer Olympic Games.
1 apr 2024 · The first modern Olympic Games began in Athens on 6 April 1896. To mark the occasion, the Greek capital was adorned with bunting, streamers, and green wreaths adorning house fronts. This event was the culmination of a long-standing endeavor led by Pierre Baron de Coubertin, the visionary founder of the International Olympic Committee.
Five Emmy nominations went to the two-part TV drama The First Olympics: Athens 1896. The story begins in 1894, when Baron Pierre de Courbetin (Louis Jourdan) announces his intention to stage the first Olympic games of the Modern Era within two years in Athens. The baron heads to the US to recruit an athletic team.
