Shmuel Yosef Agnon [1] (July 17, 1888 – February 17, 1970) was an Israeli writer and winner of the 1966 Nobel Prize in Literature. [2] He was one of the central figures of modern Hebrew fiction. In Hebrew, he is known by the acronym Shai Agnon. In English, his works are published under the name S. Y. Agnon. [3]

Shmuel Yosef Agnon (1887-1970), known by his initials S.Y. Agnon, was a respected Hebrew author and is considered one of the most important Hebrew writers of all time. Agnon was the first Israeli citizen to win a Nobel Prize, and was a two-time recipient of the Israel Prize and the Bialik Prize.

Shmuel Yosef Agnon En 1908 vivió en Jaffa y en Jerusalén, y en 1913 se trasladó a Alemania, donde pasó casi diez años, trabajando como profesor y como periodista en un diario judeoalemán. Si bien no sintonizó con los escritores judíos reconocidos en Alemania, sí fue aceptado por la juventud sionista, que encontró en él a un innovador de la literatura judía.
