True (Spandau Ballet song) " True " is a song by English pop band Spandau Ballet, released in April 1983 as the title track and third single from their third studio album. It was written by the band's lead guitarist and principal songwriter Gary Kemp to express his feelings for Altered Images lead singer Clare Grogan.

Spandau Ballet är en brittisk musikgrupp från London som bildades av Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, John Keeble, Tony Hadley och Steve Norman 1979. De var ett av de ledande banden inom new romantic -genren och utvecklade senare en elegant och välpolerad soulpopstil. Gruppen hade stora framgångar under 1980-talet med låtar som "True" och "Gold".
Then, in 1978, Gary Kemp formed "The Makers". After Richard Miller left, his brother replaced him on bass. That's when Gary changed the name to Spandau Ballet. Spandau's break came in March 1980 when they were filmed for a documentary on ITV. When the documentary was broadcast, the record companies were bursting out of their ears.
