Your major will be based on a student-developed proposal that identifies your areas of study and how they will help you meet your professional competencies. The proposal requires you to justify your approach, such as explaining why you would benefit from an Individualized Studies major over a double major or major/minor combination.

Individualized Studies Major Concentration This is the focus area of study in the Individualized Studies degree. The concentration is interdisciplinary and comprised of classes from two or more academic program areas to meet each student’s educational and/or professional goals.

Before developing an Individualized Studies major, students should read "Designing an Individualized Studies Major," or obtain a copy from the UAA Advising, 141 Mary Gates Hall. Particular attention should be paid to the sections defining restrictions on themes and restricted access to courses.
