Francesca Annis has been active in the entertainment industry since she was a teenager. After debuting on the big screen in ‘The Cat Gang’ (1959), she had an uncredited role in ‘Carry on Teacher’. In 1961, she portrayed Wanda in the comedy film ‘His and Hers’. She was cast as Eiras in the 1963 historical drama ‘Cleopatra’.
Francesca Annis and Jon Finch were 26 and 29, respectively, with Tynan remarking characters over 60 were too old to be ambitious. Polanski wanted to cast either Victoria Tennant or Tuesday Weld in the role of Lady Macbeth. Weld rejected the role, unwilling to perform the nude scene.
