The Admiral: Roaring Currents is a Korean historical film based on the Battle of Myeongnyang, one of the most famous naval battles in Korean history. The film is set in the second Japanese invasion of Korea in 1597. Thanks to the plots of a Japanese double agent, Admiral Yi Sun-Sin of Korea was falsely accused of treason and relieved of command.

Kicking off with a spectacular and genuinely exciting naval battle that sees Kolchak (Night Watch's Konstantin Khabenskiy) crippling a German battleship single-handed before despatching it in a tense chase through a minefield, it's clear we're in mythmaking rather than debunking territory here.

Never pre-judge a DVD by its cover - least of all The Admiral - which, if you were to believe the packaging artwork of a sinking battleship, would be a rollocking tale of war on the high seas. In fact, this is a sweeping epic, which is more concerned with the battleground of the heart.
The admiral, as new Alexey Nevski and the nasty Bolsheviks, the traitor and the end of beautiful love story. But the real Kolchak is in dark. For be a masterpiece, the film must be for good taste of public. So, the history is only convention. The hero , the elegant lady, few details as bones of a huge story are enough.
Synopsis. The film mainly follows the famous 1597 Battle of Myeongryang during the Japanese invasion of Korea 1592-1598, where the iconic Joseon admiral Yi Sun-sin managed to destroy a total of 133 Japanese warships with only 13 ships remaining in his command.
