Manfred II (1140 – 1215) was the second margrave of Saluzzo from his father's death in 1175 to his own. He was the son of Manfred I and Eleanor. Built around 1100 by Herman II, Margrave of Baden, the castle’s strategic viewpoint made it great for defence. It expanded over the centuries, eventually becoming a fortress with a complex of buildings surrounded by defensive walls.
