Skip Spence spielte bei einer Vorstufe von Quicksilver Messenger Service, bevor er 1965 Schlagzeuger bei Jefferson Airplane wurde. Nach dem ersten Album Jefferson Airplane Takes Off verließ er die Gruppe, um bei Moby Grape die Gitarre zu spielen. 1968 kam es im Studio zu wüsten Szenen – angeblich soll Spence Kollegen mit einer Axt bedroht haben.
29 ago 2022 · Skip Spence died of lung cancer on April 16, 1999, only two days before his 53rd birthday. Looking back on his friend's legacy, producer David Rubinson stressed that Spence was not the "crazy" person many people made him out to be. "He was desperately in touch with the biggest realities in the universe," he explained.
