Even while this is a remarkable return to heaviness, "Given to the Rising" is still able to incorporate the atmospheric elements that made its predecessors so compelling. This album is incredible and represents everything I love about Neurosis. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Given to the Rising is the first Neurosis album that utilizes their sludge AS the atmosphere, creating a dense wade through a tar pit, to reach the other side and realize you just crossed the river Styx.
