Voodoo Soup (1995) was producer Alan Douglas' attempt to compile the unfinished album. First Rays of the New Rising Sun (1997) is the officially released attempt by Experience Hendrix (his family estate's company), in collaboration with Kramer, to reconstruct the planned double album.

21 ott 2006 · Izabella is a powerful song and should've been on Voodoo Soup. First Rays is a weak album. Voodoo Soup has better mixes of the songs. First Rays drags on for too long and becomes a chore to listen to IMO. `Voodoo Soup' released in 1995 was Alan Douglas' re-imagining of Jimi Hendrix's fourth studio album, originally planned for release in 1971 and to be titled `First Ray (or 'Rays') of the New Rising Sun.' Fans will know that when in 1997 the Hendrix family won legal control over all subsequent commercial releases of Jimi's recorded material, `Voodoo Soup' was withdrawn from sale by court order.
Voodoo Soup was about the third attempt by controversial producer Alan Douglas to finally complete the never quite finished fourth album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Like the previous two attempts by Douglas, this album is pretty much loathed by the Hendrix experts and has been stricken from the official Hendrix discography and replaced by First Rays of the Rising Sun.
