Frith and Glennie performed in an abandoned sugar factory in Dormagen, Germany. This was the first time that Frith and Glennie had worked together, and their entire performance was improvised. Since The Sugar Factory sessions, Frith and Glennie have performed live together on several occasions.
This collaboration between Fred Frith and Scottish percussion soloist Evelyn Glennie was suggested by filmmaker Thomas Riedelsheimer to coincide with the filming of "Touch The Sound", a documentary feature about Glennie and her work.
