"My time studying at Toi Whakaari allowed me to not only further my craft in scenography and design but also to work alongside performers, technicians and directors. It was an invaluable experience to be able to develop collaborative relationships in this early stage of my career and be guided along the way by experienced teachers and practitioners.
Toi Whakaari joined with Victoria University of Wellington in 2000 to offer New Zealand’s first-ever Master of Theatre Arts in Directing, led by Christian Penny. 2006 In 2006, the school graduated the first Bachelor of Performing Arts (Management) students and in 2007, the first students of the two-year Diploma in Costume Construction graduated.
