Comedy drama adapted from Tony Roper's play, set in 1953 in a Scottish wash-house. Dolly (Eileen McCallum), Magrit (Dorothy Paul), Doreen (Katy Murphy) and Mrs. Culfeathers (Sheila Donald) are among the women who gather to gossip about anything and anyone. The film provides a comic insight into the wives of working men during the 1950s in Glasgow.

STV adapted the play for television in 1988, and it has since become a staple of festive season.
