Desperate Souls explores Midnight Cowboy and is based on a book by Glenn Frankel.. When I watched the film (maybe in 2004?), I tried to figure out why it was rated "X". The documentary goes into detail about the "X" rating; yes, Jon Voight is shown in the shower, but the MPAA also awarded it an "X" because of the "dangers of homosexuality" that it presented.
