6/10. My brief review of the film. sol- 1 December 2005. An early film from Gerald Thomas, who would later go on to dedicate his career to the Carry On comedy series, this is a very different sort of film. It is a mystery film, and in many ways archetypal, with a web of different events that an innocent man has to work his way through.

'The Vicious Circle' is one of those murder-mysteries where the wrong man is in the frame for the crime. Lots of missing people, odd coincidences, slippery people (Lionel Jeffries as a seedy reporter, Wilfrid Hyde-White as a mysterious and humorous plot lynch-pin (or red herring?), Ronald Culver as a Scotland Yard detective who would do Hitchcock proud).
